40 new rooms in Hotel Parkview - Rent @ 700 Rs per room

40 new rooms will be built in Hotel Parkview by renovating an existing block.The rooms will be air-conditioned and be available for around Rs 700 a day.This will extent the room facilities in chandigarh hotels

A K Malhotra, CITCO General Manager (Tourism), said, “The proposal has been approved and we will start construction soon. These rooms will have all good facilities and the tariff for a day will not be more than Rs 750 per month.”

Another project on the anvil is CITCO’s ambitious Golf Tourism plan. Under this project, the tourism department plans to offer packages, that will include two days’ stay in the five star Hotel Mountview at a rate of Rs 13,000 per person per day.

According to the tourism department, the number of tourists visiting the city has been increasing by around 20 per cent every year for the last five years.

Officials say 29,000 foreign tourists visited the city in 2009.

75 tourists in Himachal isolated by landslides

Around 75 tourists, including 50 foreigners, are still stranded in Himachal Pradesh's Spiti Valley after the closure of roads due to landslides triggered by rains and snowfall last week, police said on Tuesday.

"Around 75 tourists are still stuck at different locations in and around Kaza town in the Spiti Valley after the closure of roads due to landslides," Superintendent of Police S R Rana said.
